Red Bulls and NYCFC announce launch of New York Academy Derby

EAST HANOVER, N.J. – New York Red Bulls Academy and NYCFC Academy announced today their first-ever New York Academy Derby.

The New York Academy Derby will put both clubs U-15’s and U-17’s against each other. A trophy will be presented to the winner of the U-17’s match.

The event will take place on May 15 at Red Bulls Training Facility, but no outside visitors will be able to attend the event due to health and safety protocols. There will be a livestream available for the two matches, with the U-15’s kicking off at 2 PM ET and the U-17’s match starting at 4 PM ET.

“We are excited to host the first ever New York Academy Derby and having a trophy to play for gives the games that little bit of added pressure and meaning that is important for players to experience as part of their development,” Academy Director Sean McCafferty said. “Being able to play against MLS Academy opposition has a special feel to it and I know the players and staff are looking forward to the event”.

Throughout the day, other age groups will be competing from U-12 to U-14. Stay tuned to the Red Bulls Academy social media channels for updates regarding the event.
