Proven outside back Georgia Guenther transfers to University of North Texas

DENTON — The University of North Texas soccer team signed defensive transfer Georgia Guenther from Abilene Christian.

Guenther played the last two seasons for ACU at left back. She played in and started every game for the Wildcats over the two years and led the team each year in minutes played. She averaged better than 80 minutes of action per match. The defender has scored two goals and assisted on three in her career.

“I’m excited to have Georgia a part of the Mean Green family,” said head coach John Hedlund. “Her conditioning level of a beep test score around 50 is top notch along with her solid speed and being very athletic fits our style of play and championship success.”

Guenther has been a critical piece for the Abilene Christian defense that has shutout 12 opponents over the last two seasons. In the 35 career matches Guenther has played in, she played all 90 minutes in 19 of them, including against the Mean Green last season. She will join UNT having played 720 consecutive minutes.

Guenther is a Plano native and a 2022 graduate from Coram Deo Academy where she was an all-state and all-district honoree for a co-ed high school team. She earned a developmental redshirt her first year at ACU and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
