No. 2 Notre Dame continues undefeated season with 5-1 rout of Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-0-1, 4-0) lead the ACC and remain undefeated on the season after taking down the Clemson Tigers (3-4-5, 0-3-2) on the road in a 5-1 victory on Sunday evening.
Izzy Engle recorded her ninth multi-goal match of her career as she finished with a brace in the fourth conference win of the season.
Engle has now scored 11 goals this season, the most of any player in the ACC so far this year as she is tied for second nationally. The All-American sophomore has scored 30 career goals in just 32 games played.
Ellie Hodsden, Grace Restovich, and Paige Buchner each scored a goal a piece in the win, contributing to the most goals Clemson has conceded this season.
The Irish dished out five assists tonight as Leah Klenke, Carolyn Calzada, Annabelle Chukwu, Charlie Codd, and Izzy Engle each finished with an assist.
Engle’s brace and assist gave her an impressive five points on the night.
It was almost 30 minutes of scoreless play before the Irish were able to put themselves on the board after their first successful penalty kick of the season. Codd was able to draw the penalty in the 29th minute as Engle converted on it to give Notre Dame the 1-0 advantage.
Hodsden would double Notre Dame’s score before heading into halftime as Engle assisted Hodsden on a ball from the top of the box, putting it in the bottom left corner of the net to make it 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
In the 60th minute, Restovich was on the right wing sending a cross intended for Engle, but after it bounced past Engle and the Clemson goalkeeper, the ball found the back of the net in the bottom left corner to put the Irish up 3-0.
It soon became a 4-0 match as Klenke made a great defensive play to set up Engle beautifully for the clinical header in the 72nd minute, securing Engle’s third brace of the season.
Buchner was delivered a fastbreak ball from Codd as she sent it into the left upper 90 in the 80th minute. Her first goal of the season extended the Irish lead 5-0.
The Tigers would score their only goal of the night in the 84th minute on a free kick, but the Irish would go on to take the 5-1 win.
