RALEIGH (Via NC State) – NC State men’s soccer head coach George Kiefer announced Wednesday the addition of Lucas Champenois to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Champenois comes to the Wolfpack after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of New Mexico and a coach at the Rio Rapids Soccer Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the last three seasons.

“I’m very excited to add Lucas to the program,” Kiefer said. “He spent a few years with the University of New Mexico head coach Jeremy Fishbein, who is one of the better coaches in the country. He will bring in some new ideas and help our program continue its upward trajectory.”

A four-year standout at goalkeeper from 2012-15 for the Saint Mary’s College men’s soccer program, Champenois was a Second Team All-West Coast Conference selection in 2015. He posted a 0.95 goals-against average during the 2015 season, a mark that ranks as the fourth best single-season GAA in program history. His career GAA of 1.23 ranks third in the history of the Gaels’ program. Lucas graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 2016 with a business degree.

Champenois joins an NC State men’s soccer program that achieved multiple impressive milestones during the 2018 campaign. The team qualified for the NCAA Championships in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1991/1992, earned its first victory in the NCAA Championships since 1994, recorded its first 10-win season since 2012, and posted an unbeaten 8-0-3 record in Raleigh in front of large home crowds that ranked 22nd nationally in average attendance. NC State also defeated two top-five teams in 2018, winning 2-0 at College Cup runner-up Akron and defeating then No. 1 UNC-Chapel Hill in Raleigh in front of a stadium-record sellout crowd.
