DAVIS, Calif. | Twenty-two champions emerged from the pool of 152 teams competing at the National Cup XVIII West Regional, June 15-18 at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

The tournament field held a Super Group (most competitive) and a Premier Group for 12-U through 19-U boys and girls age groups and saw 17 different clubs take home West Regional championships, and an opportunity to build on their postseason success.

Host club Davis Legacy SC led the pack with three division championships in the 13-U Girls Super, 15-U Girls Super and 19-U Girls Super Group divisions. The other clubs to take home multiple titles were Napa United 1839 Academy (12-U Boys Super, 14-U Boys Super), Real Colorado Edge (12-U Girls Super, 16-U Girls Super), San Juan SC (12-U Boys Premier, 12-U Girls Premier) and Spartans FC (13-U Boys Super, 19-U Boys Premier).

Of those 22 winning teams, 18 have earned advancement to the National Cup XVIII Finals, to be held July 20-24 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, where they’ll join other 13-U through 19-U boys and girls National Cup XVIII Regionals champions and qualifying state cup winners.

“This was a very high level event,” commented Gavin Taylor Napa United 1839 Academy Director. “We had three teams attend because we are always confident that the level of opposition, facilities & scheduling will be elite. It is a perfect kick off for our summer tournament program so I would like to thank the organizers for putting the event together again. We are excited to be taking our 2005 team to the National Cup Finals in Colorado. I was also very impressed with the level of officiating which is great considering this has a big impact on the overall quality of play.”

At the National Cup XVIII Finals, Real Colorado Edge will look to keep a 16-U Girls national title in Colorado, after the Select ’02 bested Mount Laurel United Pride (N.J.) to win the 16-U Girls Premier Group championship at last summer’s National Cup XVII.

This year’s West Regional marked the seventh consecutive year Davis Legacy Soccer Complex hosted the event, which has featured more than 1,000 total teams in that span.
