McLean Youth Soccer selected as U-12 Development Academy member
(Via McLean Youth Soccer) – McLean Youth Soccer (MYS) has been selected as a member of the new U.S. Soccer U-12 Development Academy program.
This new program for boys born in 2004 and 2005 will begin in the Fall of 2016. U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy program in 2007 to offer education, resources and support to impact club environments and help them develop world-class players.
The new U-12 Division of the Development Academy program will serve as an opportunity to develop younger male players born in 2004 and 2005.
As U.S. Soccer states, “The expansion to U-12 will incorporate the same Academy philosophy as the older age groups, providing this critical younger age with an improved environment to enhance player and coach development. The players will train more often, while also playing fewer – but more meaningful – games every week, which will provide the American player with the opportunity to learn and develop to reach their full potential.”
McLean Youth Soccer is a registered 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to be a leader in player development and in establishing a lifelong appreciation for soccer among its over 3000 members. The addition of the U-12 Development Academy program further enhances the club’s array of opportunities for young soccer players at all developmental levels, from the recreational to the elite.
Jeff Carroll and Bruce Murray will serve as the coaches of the MYS U-12 Development Academy. Both coaches are current members of the MYS coaching staff. Coach Carroll is an “A” licensed coach, former DC United professional player, and has Development Academy experience having coached the DC United Academy team. Murray is an “A” licensed coach, Herman Trophy winner, and former member of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Coach Murray also has experience working with the U.S. Soccer Development Academy program having coached the CASL Academy to the 2008 U.S. Development Academy Finals.
Executive Director, Louise Waxler, states: “We are very proud that MYS was selected to be a member of this new program. This selection is a testament to the depth of the player pool in our area, the performance of McLean teams and players, and the strength of our coaching staff. We believe the experience of working more closely with U.S. Soccer will benefit all of our teams and coaches by enhancing our exposure to best practices in U.S. Soccer, and providing access to U.S. Soccer’s curriculum and training techniques.”
