Maryland State Cup finals match-ups decided (Boys)
The Maryland State Cup finals in the U-12 through U-17 age groups are coming up this weekend. See below for a look at the teams that will compete for state championship at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
FC USA 03 vs. Bethesda Blue 03
June 1 – 7:30 p.m. at ERPK Field 11
FC USA earned a second consecutive one-goal victory in the semifinals by defeating Baltimore Celtic Dynasty 2-1. Bethesda advances to the title match following a 2-0 shutout of Potomac SA Blue in the semifinals.
FC Frederick 02 vs. Takoma MFC Friends United
FC Frederick followed up a 1-0 shutout of Olney Rangers Blue in the quarterfinals with a 3-2 defeat of Bethesda 02 Blue on Sunday in the semifinals. Frederick will play Takoma MFC Friends United for the State Cup title, with Takoma coming off a 3-0 clean sheet win over Baltimore Celtic Frye in the semifinals.
Baltimore Darby 01/02 vs. Pipeline SC Black
The U-14 age group will feature a re-match of last year’s title match, in which Baltimore won its second straight state championship. Baltimore topped Potomac SA Blue 4-2 on Sunday in the semis, the team’s third straight two-goal victory in State Cup action. Pipeline returns to its second straight State Cup final, following an 8-0 rout of Salisbury United SC 01 in the semifinals.
Baltimore Celtic Dynasty 00/01 vs. Olney Rangers Blue
Two-time reigning State Cup champion Baltimore Celtic Dynasty 00/01 continued its defensive dominance in the semifinals with a 1-0 clean sheet victory over Baltimore Bays 00/01. After reaching the State Cup semifinals each of the past two seasons, Olney Rangers Blue broke through to make the title match with a 5-0 rout of FC Frederick 00 on Sunday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
Fewster FC vs. Baltimore Celtic SC Christos
Independent team Fewster FC is on the precipice of capturing a fourth consecutive State Cup championship, now one win away after overpowering Potomac Hotspur Black 4-1 in the semis. However, no team has been able to slow down Baltimore Celtic SC Christos, which rolled to a 4-0 semifinal win over four-time State Cup semifinalist Pachuca FC.
Pipeline SC Black vs. Arundel SA Premier 98
Pipeline SC Black cruised to another lopsided win in the semifinals over the weekend, knocking off reigning State Cup champion Baltimore Celtic 98/99 by a 4-1 scoreline. Meanwhile, Arundel SA Premier 98 still has not given up a goal in three elimination round matches, following a 2-0 shutout of Pachuca FC River Plate in the semis.
