Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta joins USWNT training camp roster

ATLANTA – Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta will replace Seattle Reign midfielder Sam Meza on the U.S. Women’s National Team training camp roster for the upcoming matches against Portugal in Chester, Pa. (Oct. 23) and East Hartford, Conn. (Oct. 26), then against New Zealand in Kansas City (Oct. 29).
In addition, forward Trinity Rodman will not attend training camp after suffering a knee injury while playing for the Washington Spirit on Oct. 15 in the Concacaf W Champions Cup. Rodman will not be replaced on the roster, which will now consist of 25 players.
LaBonta earned her first USWNT call-up during the late May/earlyJune FIFA window for matches against China PR and Jamaica and earned her first two career USWNT caps. She earned her first cap on May 31 vs. China PR, becoming the oldest player ever to debut for the USA at 32 years and 74 days. She also played against Jamaica but was injured at the end of the match, a setback that caused her to miss several weeks of NWSL play.
The call-up for LaBonta, the Current captain who is in her fifth season with the club, gives her the chance to play at home when the USA visits CPKC Stadium for the first time. LaBonta’s call-up gives the Current four players on this training camp roster along with midfielder Claire Hutton and forwards Ally Sentnor and Michelle Cooper.
