Richmond, VA – The 2026 Jefferson Cup Girls College Showcase, one of the top tournaments in the country, was held March 20-22, featuring 495 high-level teams in the U15-U19 age groups. (FULL RESULTS)

With the playoff push fast approaching across all leagues, this year’s Jefferson Cup provided teams with the chance to make adjustments and continue to sharpen their skills against new and different competitors.

“Playing in the Jefferson Cup is massive for us,” said Penn Fusion SA Head Coach Craig Scangarella. “I sometimes call it ‘the playoffs before the playoffs’. You are playing teams that you might play in [the ECNL] Group Phase and you are playing against GA playoff teams. It just gets you ready for that speed of play at that level. On the Showcase end, it allows every girl the chance to play in that type of environment.”

U15 Showcase Championship

FC DELCO ECNL 2011:DELCO put an exclamation point on a superb weekend in the Showcase Championship (3-0-0, 27 points) on Sunday, knocking off NC Courage ECNL Academy 2011 3-1 to finish first in the Division. The Pennsylvania-based team showcased their attacking talents all throughout the weekend, defeating FC Prime ECNL 2011 (4-1) and Coppermine SC 2011 GA (3-1) by more than one goal on Friday and Saturday respectively. Their ten goals was tied with Arlington SA 2011 ECNL for the most in the Showcase Championship.

Bethesda SC ECNL 2011: In their first year in the Jefferson Cup Showcase, Bethesda SC’s 2011 ECNL grouped shined earning three consecutive victories to finish second in their Division (3-0-0, 27 points). They started off play in fine fashion, knocking off NC Courage ECNL Academy 2011 3-0 on Friday. Their high press methodology continued to pay dividends on Saturday, earning a 4-1 victory over FC Prime ECNL 2011. Although they faced a stiff test on Sunday in the form of World Class FC 2011 ECNL, they proved  that they can also hold on to close results late, earning a close 1-0 victory.

Arlington SA 2011: When a team is firing on all cylinders, it can be highly difficult to take them down. Case in point: Arlington SA’s 2011s (2-0-1, 24 points) who were tied for the most goals scored in the U15 Showcase Championship (12) and allowed the fewest number of goals (0) over the course of three days. After holding onto a 0-0 draw against Maryland United 2011 ECNL, their attack exploded in back-to-back 6-0 victories over Connecticut FC United ECNL 2011 and Coppermine SC 2011 GA.

U16 Championship

Penn Fusion SA ECNL 2010: Winning a major competition like the Jefferson Cup Girls Showcase is never easy. For a team to put on three consecutive strong performances against elite-level competition requires a lot of hard work and a drive to excel even after three days of grinding. On Sunday, Penn Fusion SA’s 2010 girls (3-0-0, 29 points) did exactly what they needed to do finish in first in the U17 Championship, finishing off VDA 2010 ECNL, 4-0.

“I thought that this good match” said Scangarella. “I know VDA is missing some players and they are a well-coached group. But going into this match we said that we wanted to treat this like a playoff game because we know we might see this team again.”

Sunday was their second consecutive 4-0 victory in the competition, having previously beaten SJEB FC 10G GA on Saturday by the same scoreline. They start their weekend with another strong attacking effort, knocking off Richmond United ECNL 2010, 3-1. Their ten goals this weekend was the most among all U16 Championship teams.

For Fusion, creating attacking space on the outside was critical to their success against VDA. In the first half, both of their goals came from the outside. They earned their first goal in the 22nd minute when Amelia Reader connected on a header from outside of the box to give her team the advantage. They added a second minutes later when Olivia Bongiorno polished off a crisp corner kick with a low shot at the far post.

“We wanted to work on opening up space [this weekend],” Scangarella said on his team’s attacking approach. “Playing quick in transition is key for us and if we can do that then we are going to be successful.”

They continued to dominate VDA in the attacking third in the second half using their speed and quick passes to keep their opponents on their heels. Carly Barnes (63′) and Cecelia Tracey (67′) each added a goal midway through the second half to put the game out of reach, and to extend Penn Fusion’s unbeaten run.

FC Prime ECNL 2010: One-goal advantages are sometimes the hardest results to hold. Despite being faced with this dilemma twice, FC Prime showed that they were up for the challenge securing consecutive results over World Class FC 2010 ECNL and SUSA FC 2010 ECNL to finish in second place. Their defense was on point all weekend, allowing just two goals and securing a 1-0 shutout victory over Baltimore Armour 2010 GA on Friday.

World Class FC 2010 ECNL: Placing third in the U16 Championship Division were World Class FC’s ECNL 2010s (2-1-0, 20 points). After losing a tough match against FC Prime (3-0-0, 24 points) on Saturday, World Class rallied with a 5-0 victory against Nationals 2010 Blue ECNL on Sunday. It was their second shutout of the weekend, having previously blanked VDA 2010 ECNL, 2-0 on Friday.

U17 Championship

World Class FC 2009 ECNL: In a tough U17 Championship Division, World Class FC (3-0-0, 27 points) earned top honors on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over PA Classics 09G GA. Playing a high-tempo attacking style, World Class scored nine goals over the course of the weekend which was the most among all U17 Championship teams. They knocked off VDA 2009 ECNL 2-0 on Friday, and held on for the 3-1 result over FC DELCO ECNL 2009 on Saturday.

Penn Fusion SA ECNL 2009: In pressure moments, the best players always shine. Facing a tough, unfamiliar opponent in the Michigan Jaguars 2009 GA team while battling injuries, Penn Fusion ECNL 2009 proved their mettle, scoring twice to earn 2-0 victory and the top spot in the U17 Championship.

“It was a clean, fair match,” said Penn Fusion head coach Ellis Badillo. “It was the third day but I thought we were able to move the ball very well against a really good team. Both teams were really trying to play, but I think we just wore them down in the end.”

Penn Fusion started the weekend strong, earning a 3-0 victory over RNY FC Youth 2009 GA. Although they took the lead early against Nationals 2009 Blue on Saturday the team had to settle for a 3-3 draw. That result set up a pivotal date on Sunday with the Jaguars, who had secured back-to-back victories over FC DELCO ECNL 2009 (2-1) and PA Classics 2009 GA (1-0).

With a top spot on the line, both teams came out swinging. In just the fifth minute of the match, the Jaguars broke through the Penn Fusion defense with Livia Byrd hitting a low shot on target that appeared destined for the back of the net. However, goalkeeper Isabella Kail was up for the challenge making the diving stop to keep the score level at zero.

After a few nervy moments early, Penn regained their composure and started building out of the back. Led by Isabella Haag (2027-Delaware), Colby Costa (2028), and Sierra Smith (2028) Penn started moving the ball out of the back and into dangerous positions.

“We are adjusting at a few positions at the moment,” said Badillo.  “We are missing three center-backs at the moment so we have been rotating other players into there. I think because we have our number one center-back in there she did a great job organizing and getting her teammates around her ready.”

That opened up play for their  playmaker in the midfield Kylie Berk (2027-Virginia) to create chances for herself and her teammates. In the 30th minute, Berk connected on a cross deep inside of the Jaguars eighteen yard box and hammered home a one-time volley to give her team the 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, Penn continued to press the Michigan backline looking for a second. They nearly had it in the 42nd minute when forward Macie Osunde (2028) found midfielder Mia Gutowski (2028) with space to operate in front of goal. But her shot would be cleared away by Jaguars defender Natalia Hurd (2027-Wayne State).

However, Gutowski would not be denied. Minutes later, she once again found herself with the ball at her feet and in front of goal. This time, the number seven coolly slotted her shot into the back of the net giving Penn Fusion a valuable insurance goal.

Badillo and his squad, while the victory was important, the chance to continue to show what they can do against elite opponents was perhaps more valuable. “We are so spread over. There are elite teams in the ECNL, there are elite teams in the GA,” he added.  “This tournament gives us an opportunity to play elite teams from other divisions that we might not normally play.”

SUSA FC ECNL 2009: Rounding out the top three were SUSA FC ECNL 2009 (1-0-2, 18 points), who grinded out a 0-0 draw with VDA ECNL 2009 on Sunday to wrap up their undefeated weekend. SUSA’s bend but do not break mentality helped contain three potent attacking teams throughout the weekend, earning shutouts over VDA, Richmond United ECNL 2009 (0-0), and Seattle Reign Academy 2009 GA (5-0). They were the only team in the U17 Championship Division to not concede a single goal throughout the weekend’s action.

U19 Championship

Keystone FC 08/07 GA: Keystone clinched the U19 Championship Division title with a 2-0 victory over Fairfax Union ECNL 08/07 on Sunday. The Girls Academy team out themselves in prime position to earn the top spot after winning back-to-back one goal victories over Bethesda SC ECNL 2007/08 (3-2) and Arlington SA 08/07 ECNL (2-1). Their seven goals was the second highest for any U19 Championship team, behind Pipeline SC 2007/08 ECNL  and Bethesda, who each scored eight.

Pipeline SC 2007/08 ECNL: Pipeline’s defense posed major problems for offenses all weekend, earning three consecutive shutout results against Salvo SC 08/07 GA (5-0), Seattle Reign Academy 07/08 GA (3-0), and Northern Virginia Alliance 08/07 GA (0-0)  to earn second place (2-0-1, 24 points). Alongside VDA 2008 ECNL, Pipeline were the only U19 Championship team to not concede a single goal through their three matches.
