Indiana women’s soccer adds assistant coach Sandy Davison

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Via Indiana University) – Indiana Women’s Soccer head coach Amy Berbary has announced the hiring of Sandy Davison as assistant coach. Davison comes to Indiana after four highly successful seasons as an assistant coach at Washington State.

“I am extremely excited and honored for the opportunity to join Indiana Women’s Soccer in their quest for continued excellence in the classroom, and success in the Big Ten Conference,” said Davison. “The solid foundation and culture that Amy and Sergio Gonzalez have worked to developed with the program and their student-athletes are a great fit for my continued professional growth and the future of the program. I look forward to getting to Bloomington to start within the department, the team, and the community. I would like to thank Amy Berbary and Senior Associate Athletic Director Stephen Harper for this incredible opportunity and I am very excited to be a Hoosier.”

During her time with the Cougars, Davison helped lead the team to a 42-28-10 overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances. This past season, Washington State advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and finished the year ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll with a 10-8-4 mark.

In Davison’s four seasons in Pullman, 12 Cougars earned All-Pac-12 honors and five were named All-Region. In addition, 35 Cougars have been placed on Pac-12 All-Academic teams and Washington State was awarded the Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches in each of Davison’s four seasons.

“Sandy will be an incredible addition to our staff this spring,” said Berbary. “Her wealth of knowledge and wide range of experience within the game of soccer can only help us grow as a team to reach our goals of earning a spot in the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA’s. Her passion to grow, teach and learn will have an immediate impact on our staff and most importantly, on our student-athletes.”

Prior to joining Washington State, Davison spent a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Louisville, where the Cardinals advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament and were ranked No. 24 in the final poll of the season. Davison also spent a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Cincinnati.

Davison’s first college coaching job was at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she served as an assistant for the 2011 campaign and led the team to a second-place finish in the Southern Conference.

Davison has an extensive background in the youth soccer arena, having been involved with numerous clubs, as well as U.S. Youth Soccer National Teams and the Olympic Development Program. From 2002-14, Davison was involved in various roles with U.S. Soccer, including serving as a national staff scout, staffing Youth National Team Camps and working as director of the U.S. Soccer Market Training Center in Phoenix.

In the ODP circuit, Davison was a regional staff coach for both Region III and Region IV for many years, as well as the 93 Head Coach for the U-17 CONCACAF Costa Rica Tour from 2008-09. From 1994-2012, Davison coached on ODP State Teams from North Carolina, Florida, Texas and California.

For 16 years, Davison also served as a coach and youth technical director coordinator at some of the most prestigious club teams in the country, including Sereno (Phoenix, Ariz.), Tophat (Atlanta, Ga.) and Pleasanton Rage (Pleasanton, Calif.).

Davison has her United States Soccer Federation “A’ Coaching License and received her bachelor’s degree from Ashford University.
