Freestate Soccer Alliance and Waldorf Soccer Club join to create Maryland United F.C.

Freestate Soccer Alliance and Waldorf Soccer Club, Inc. have joined to create the Maryland United Football Club. Beginning with tryouts for the upcoming 2013-2014 season, the Maryland United affiliation will focus on the development of soccer players at every level through an emphasis on technical development and passion for the game.

Maryland United teams will begin at U-11 and run through U-18, on both the boys and girls side. This is not only a union between two like-minded soccer clubs, it is a move that will ensure competitiveness over a range of leagues on both the local and national level, including the Club Champions League (CCL), the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), the Atlantic Soccer League (ASL), along with continued participation in leagues like WAGS, NCSL, and CMSSL.

Quote from Jerry Unger (President, Waldorf Soccer)
“Waldorf SC and Freestate, both having an excellent reputation, share a vision for soccer excellence. This shared vision is instrumental to the establishment and growth of the Maryland United FC and the overall development of its players, intended on providing the highest level of youth soccer.”

Quote from Patrick Noel (Technical Director, Freestate Soccer)
“We have worked extremely hard to create the best possible program for our players. This new venture significantly expands our player pool and helps to properly balance our age-group offerings to provide the best developmental environment. We are excited to work with the staff at Waldorf Soccer as through this entire process of over 2 years in trying to find the right group to partner with, they stood out as the best partner from the beginning.”

Quote from Sonny Silooy , D.C. United, Director of Youth Development
We are excited about the joint venture affiliation between Waldorf Soccer and DC United Affiliate Club, Freestate Soccer Alliance. As we look to identify and develop future First Teamers, it is important that our coverage of the metropolitan area expands. This merger not only increases the area, it also strengthens and solidifies our first Affiliate Club’s membership. We look forward to working with both clubs.”

Maryland United will look forward to building upon the foundations of two successful clubs. Freestate Soccer’s success, most notably youth and senior U.S. National team selections, MD State Cup Championships, and college placement over the past 12 years brings a lot to the table. When combined with the exciting youth development initiatives that have been incorporated into Waldorf Soccer’s program over the past two years and their recreational program of nearly 800 players, the affiliation creates all of the necessary ingredients for a successful Maryland United FC. Given the geographical footprint which extends from the Southern Maryland, through Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties, up through Baltimore and even to the Eastern Shore, varied age-group programs will be able to better serve the needs of each and every player.
