A total of 266 boys teams from nine states will descend on Richmond, Virginia this weekend to compete in the 2015 Capital Fall Classic.

The Richmond Strikers Tournament Series event will feature U-9 to U-18 squads representing Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the host state of Virginia.

Since the inception of the event, the Capital Fall Classic has grown from a small to medium-sized tournament to one of the largest in the Commonwealth with close to 500 teams participating annually. The 37 total divisions on the boys side across 10 age groups provide a wide range of competition for the various skill levels attending the event, making it a destination for many teams closing out their fall seasons in a collection of local and regional leagues. Among the most popular levels include the U-12 bracket, which features 40 teams, while the U-11 and U-13 levels have well over 30 each.

The 266 attending teams hail from 60 total clubs up and down the East Coast and Midwest region of the United States, encompassing well-known leagues such as the Region I Champions League, Club Champions League (CCL), Virginia National Premier League (NPL), Eastern Development Program (EDP), Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS), National Capital Soccer League (NCSL), Virginia Soccer League (VSL) and New England Premiership (NEP) among others.

“One of the main objectives of the Capital Fall Classic is that we have something for everyone,” said Richmond Strikers Tournament Director John Faircloth. “Clubs know their teams are going to be challenged against unfamiliar opponents close to their skill level on top-notch playing surfaces.”

Eight of the top soccer facilities around the Greater Richmond area will host the tournament on natural grass and turf fields at Striker Park, West Creek, Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center, Capital Park, Dorey Park, Longdale Fields, Mary B. Stratton Park and River City Sportsplex, which will again serve as a central location for the U-16 to U-18 showcase divisions.

Returning Top Flight Champions / State Cup Champs / Jeff Cup qualification

Coaches from every level of collegiate soccer will scout the Capital Fall Classic, which has grown as a showcase event in recent years. Additionally, the Premier Divisions in each age group will have the opportunity to earn a guaranteed spot in the 2016 Jefferson Cup. Returning Premier Division champions on the boys side include the FC Richmond Magic U-13, U-14 and U-15 CCL squads.

More than three quarters of the participating teams will play in the various Superior and Classic Divisions. Vista United 99 captured the U-15 Boys Superior Black Division in 2014, and like several other returning champs, including Beach FC 98 Black and Virginia Rush U-16 among others, get the chance to move up a division as they defend their championships.

Group play at the two-day event begins Saturday morning, continues throughout the day and concludes Sunday morning prior to the start of the elimination rounds which run through Sunday afternoon.
