FC Tucson to host international friendly between Canada, Denmark Men’s National Teams

Tucson, AZ  — FC Tucson, in partnership with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of Major League Soccer, will host an international friendly between Canada and Denmark at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on January 26 at 1 pm. Tickets for the match will go on sale at a later date.

“There isn’t a better way to kick off a month of soccer in Tucson than with an international friendly,” said FC Tucson Co-Managing Member Greg Foster. “We’re proud to bring Tucson its first international soccer match alongside SUM. This is just the first of many exciting events we’ll be hosting from mid-January to mid-February that builds Tucson’s reputation as a world class soccer venue.”

The Canadian national soccer team recently celebrated its 100th anniversary during a 0-0 draw against the United States on June 3, 2012. Among its international accomplishments, the Canadian national team has won the CONCACAF championship in 1985 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2000. As a nation, Canada was also gold-medal winners at the St. Louis 1904 Olympics.

The Danish national soccer team is managed by Morten Olsen and is currently ranked 22nd in the world according to the latest FIFA World Ranking. Among its international accomplishments, the Danish national soccer team has won three Olympic silver medals (1908, ’12 and ’60) and one bronze (1948), the 1992 UEFA European Championships and the 1995 FIFA Confederations Cup.
