ECNL: Freestate’s younger sides carve out strong weekend

By Jimmy LaRoue

Freestate Soccer Alliance’s younger sides had stellar weekends, as the Under-14s (6-5-0) won twice over its Ohio opponents while the U-15 team (5-2-3) had a four-point weekend and did not allow a single goal.

On Saturday, Freestate’s U-14s scored a 5-3 win over Ohio Premier Eagles, and then followed that up with a 3-2 win over Ohio Elite Soccer Academy Sunday.

Freestate’s U-15s, meanwhile, picked up a 1-0 win over Ohio Premier Eagles Saturday while playing to a scoreless tie Sunday with Ohio Elite Soccer Academy. Freestate’s U-16 and U-17 teams split games with their Ohio counterparts in Elite Clubs National League play.

The U-16s (5-3-1) picked a 3-1 win over Ohio Premier Eagles Saturday and fell 2-0 to Ohio Elite Soccer Academy Sunday. Freestate stands in fourth place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference, while Ohio Elite is in second.

In U-17 play, Ohio Premier Eagles soundly defeated Freestate (3-7-0) 4-0 Saturday, but the Maryland club rebounded for a 4-1 win over Ohio Elite Soccer Academy Sunday.

Freestate’s U-18 girls (5-1-4) played two 1-1 ties with Ohio Premier Eagles and Ohio Elite Soccer Academy, and are in second place in the conference.

Freestate hosts SoccerPlus Connecticut and Connecticut FC this weekend.

In the only other action involving local teams, Virginia Rush’s U-14s lost twice over the weekend in North Carolina, falling to 2-0 to Birmingham United and 4-0 to Gwinnett Soccer Association.
