D.C. United Academy Update: United teams enjoy 4-1 weekend against PA Classics, Baltimore Bays

Washington, D.C. (Via D.C. United) –  D.C. United’s Academy teams went 4-1 this past weekend as the U13s, U15s, U16s and U18s traveled away to face PA Classics while the U14s stayed home to face the Baltimore Bays.

This Sunday, Nov. 23, D.C. United’s U13 Academy team will play its make up game against Cedar Stars Academy at Catholic University at 12 p.m. 

U-18s: 3-1 win over PA Classics

“It was an excellent showcase of quality soccer by two very strong teams,” said U18 Head Coach Tom Torres. “Getting a goal in the first half opened up the play a bit more and allowed us more transition moments which led to more scoring opportunities and some great bouts of possession. Overall, we were happy with the boy’s mentality and work in the fall season. They dealt with challenges well and showed a great understanding of the style and system we want to play in the academy. We will look to get them sharp for the Showcase as we know the matches will be competitive.”

“It was a great match and the boys played very well,” said U16 Head Coach Jonny Frias. “PA Classics created lots of pressure and problems for us and they were able to convert a goal off a counter attack. We also had many chances but we were missing the final piece. Overall, I was happy with their performance and the way they played.”

“It was a good Saturday afternoon match for our boys,” said U15 Assistant Coach Nenad Babic. “In the first half our boys created a lot of chances but we were unable to score more than one goal. In the second half we provided pressure in the opponent’s half. We then converted two goals out of the many shots that were taken.”

“We went down to 10 players in the 15th minute of play,” said U13 Head Coach Jon Bello. “We were able to organize and dropped our line of confrontation to absorb the opponents’ attack. We pushed for the counter attack goal the last 10-15 minutes and were able to put together a nice movement to score the winning goal.”
