Boston University women’s soccer program announces 2024 recruiting class

BOSTON – Fresh off a 2023 campaign that featured six All-Patriot League Team award winners, the Boston University women’s soccer program has released its latest incoming recruiting class ahead of the 2024 season, Head Coach Casey Brown announced.

The BU Women’s Soccer Class of 2028 features eight student-athletes. The group comprises of three defenders, two midfielders, two forwards, and one goalkeeper. Three Terriers hail from Massachusetts, with four different states represented.

“We are very excited to welcome these eight terrific student athletes to our BU women’s soccer family,” said Brown. “They will each bring a high level of club experience and a mentality that aligns with the goals of our program. We cannot wait to work with Olivia, Juliana, Jaiden, Abigail, Allison, Maddie, Morgan and Bridget, and have them compete for us as Terriers.”

OLIVIA AVELLAR
Midfielder/Forward · Orleans, Mass. · Nauset Regional High School

  • Olivia Avellar was a three-time All-State and Eastern Massachusetts First Team selection.
  • After capturing Cape and Islands All-League recognition as a freshman and sophomore, she was named the League MVP in her final two seasons to garner The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and Cape Cod Times All-Scholastic honors.
  • As the Nauset Regional team captain and MVP last fall, she set the single-season school record with 44 goals, breaking the previous mark from 1979.
  • Avellar suited up for Scorpions SC at the club level with fellow BU newcomer Allison Powderly.
  • Outside of soccer, she has been a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Nauset girls ice hockey team, earning team MVP honors in her junior year.

BRIDGET CARR
Goalkeeper · Wyckoff, N.J. · Ramapo High School

  • Bridget Carr was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Ramapo High School, where she captured a state championship as a junior.
  • As a co-captain last fall, she received All-County and All-League First Team honors as well as NJGSCA recognition, posting 110 saves across 20 matches.
  • In her career, she has collected 134 saves in 31 appearances.
  • At the club level, she was a three-time co-captain with the World Class Football Club.
  • During her tenure, she reached the National Semifinals as a sophomore, and the quarterfinal round as a junior.

MORGAN CHEVERIE
Defender · Duxbury, Mass. · Duxbury

  • Morgan Cheverie was a two-time Eastern Massachusetts First Team and Patriot League All-Star.
  • After collecting Duxbury High School Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman, she later earned team MVP in her junior year and defensive MVP as a captain in her senior campaign.
  • Cheverie suited up for South Shore Select at the club level.
  • In addition to soccer, she ran indoor and spring track at Duxbury.
  • She earned All-Star status in both as a junior, being named a Co-MVP during the indoor season.

MADDIE GREEN
Defender · Tampa, Fla. · George Steinbrenner High School

  • Maddie Green was a two-time captain at George Steinbrenner High School.
  • In her junior year, she garnered Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-State and All-Academic honors.
  • During that run, her team went 18-2-3, ranked 32nd in the state of Florida.
  • Following a Defensive Player of the Year and team MVP selection that season, she was named to the Hillsborough County Senior All-Star Team as a senior.
  • Green was a member of the Tampa Bay United ECNL 2006 club team.

ABIGAIL ORTOLANO
Midfielder · Norwalk, Conn. · Brien McMahon High School

  • Abigail Ortolano boasted experience as a midfielder and defender for Brien McMahon High School, which was ranked 35th in the state of Connecticut in the fall.
  • As a senior captain, she was named an FCIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2023.
  • That performance followed up her All-County selection as a junior.
  • Ortolano played for Connecticut FC at the club level.
  • Her sister, Chloe, played four seasons at Providence. She started 49 of her 61 career matches, including the two against BU in 2021 and 2022.

JULIANA OSTERMAN
Forward · Roxbury, N.J. · Roxbury High School

  • Juliana Osterman was a two-time All-Conference First Team pick at Roxbury High School.
  • She also earned All-State, All-County, and team MVP honors as a captain during her senior year.
  • In her high school career, she totaled 40 goals and 10 assists, with 69 of her points coming in her final two seasons.
  • Osterman was a 2019 ECNL national champion with PDA Blue.
  • In 2022, she was picked to the ECNL North Atlantic Conference First Team.

ALLISON POWDERLY
Defender · Kingston, Mass. · Silver Lake Regional High School

  • Allison Powderly was a two-time Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic First Team at Silver Lake Regional.
  • She was a Massachusetts DII state champion as a junior following a finalist appearance the previous season.
  • As a team captain in her senior year, she captured Eastern Massachusetts First Team All-Star recognition, building off her Second Team honor in 2022.
  • Like Avellar, Powderly played for Scorpions SC.
  • As a junior, she was an ODP National Team select player.

JAIDEN SCHULTZ
Forward · West Orange, N.J. · West Orange High School

  • Jaiden Schultz was a four-year All-County selection at West Orange High School, earning First Team recognition in her final two years.
  • She recorded 103 career points on 44 goals and 15 assists.
  • In her senior year, she scored 23 goals to capture Super Essex Conference Player of the Year, Second Team All-State, and First Team All-Group IX honors.
  • West Orange was Essex County champions during her sophomore and junior years.
  • Suiting up for Match Fit Academy, she was an ECNL club captain as a senior and Second Team All-ECNL in the North Atlantic region as a sophomore.
