Arizona State adds English international Keri Matthews to 2021 recruiting class

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State head coach Graham Winkworth and the Sun Devil Soccer team announced an additional signee, Keri Matthews, to the 2021 recruiting class on Wednesday morning.

Matthews, an England National Team player, joins six other new Sun Devils in the Class of 2021 and graduate transfer Jayda Hylton-Pelaia who signed in early January.

“I first saw Kez play about two years ago and I could not be more delighted to add her to our squad for the fall. She is fit, fast and very athletic. On top of that she is technically good with a very high soccer IQ,” said Winkworth.

Keri Matthews
Position: Winger
Hometown: Barnsley, England

  • England U19 National Team member
  • In choosing a college, Matthews looked for at the standard of soccer, the coaches, and eduacation
  • Drawn to ASU for the coaching staffs’ vision, the opportunity to play in the Pac-12 Conference, and the facilities
  • Has professional soccer aspirations and enjoys reading, walks, watching Netflix and listening to music.

Coach’s Comments: Kez is an England U19 National Team member with excellent experience at a top level. She is primarily a winger who possesses the dribbling skills that will frighten many defenders. She chose ASU over some of the historically top soccer programs in the country and I have a lot of confidence that she has the potential to come in and help us quickly. She is a lovely person and will combine her time playing for our soccer team with studying in the Barrett Honors College.”
