Across the U.S. Soccer Development Academy: May 13, 2015

(Via U.S. Soccer) – Across the Academy is a weekly summary of news that highlights the U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs and players.

ACADEMY QUICK HITS (May 9-10):

Western Conference: The De Anza Force U-17/18s defeated the San Juan Soccer Club 1-0 on a 74th minute goal from Brandon Magpayo. The win was De Anza’s first since April 11. The Pateadores U-17/18s defeated the LA Galaxy U-17/18s 3-2, bolstering the team’s second-place position over the third-place Galaxy in the Southwest division. Ronaldo Escudero scored the game-winning goal for Pateadores, joining fellow goalscorers Choi Ba Da and Luis Leon. Adonis Amaya and Malcolm Jones were the scorers for the Galaxy.

Central Conference: The Texas Rush U-15/16s defeated Colorado Rapids U-15/16s 3-2 behind trio of second-half goals, two of which were scored by Adrian Martinez. Israel Tristan was the other Texas Rush scorer, while Desmond Cole and Aaron Martinez scored for the Rapids. The Internationals U-17/18s were defeated by Vardar’s U-17/18s 4-3. Jacob Gratzer scored and Stefanos Grazia notched a double, including one score in the 90th minute, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a Nash Popovic hat trick and a Jimmy Todd goal from Vardar. The Crew SC Academy U-17/18s picked up the win over the Indiana Fire Academy U-17/18s by a score line of 3-2. Deihnia Samor scored once and Grant Hollkamp twice for Crew which proved to be enough. Rece Buckmaster and Grant Hollkamp scored for Indiana Fire Academy.

East Conference: DC United U-15/16s and PA Classics U-15/16, two teams separated by just .04 pts/gp tied 2-2. Collin Jouan scored both D.C. United goals, while Aramis Kouzine and Sean O’Hearn were the PA Classics scorers. Oakwood Soccer Club U-17/18s tied northeast division second-place BW Gottschee Academy U-17/18s 2-2. Michael Boakye scored a pair of goals for Oakwood and Grant Burg and Sergio Abarca scored for BW Gottschee to even. In a battle of teams currently in the wildcard pool picture, Weston FC U-15/16s defeated Concorde Fire U-15/16s 2-1. Luca Defreitas-Hansen scored the game-winner in the 65th minute. Noahh Thomas was the lone scorer for Concorde Fire. Weston FC’s first goal was a Concorde own goal.

ACADEMY HONORS:

Player of the Week: 
Beachside SC U-15/16 forward John Denis earns Academy Player of the Week for his standout performance against the New England Revolution. Denis received high marks for his creativity on and off the ball and he scored Beachside’s only goal in the 1-1 tie to keep his side in the playoffs picture. Thanks to his standout performance, Beachside remain in 3rd place in the Northeast Division, just 0.03 Pts/GP behind the New England Revolution.

Referee of the Week: Matthew Deblois, a 23-year old Grade 6 referee from Rhode Island was named Academy Referee of the Week for receiving high marks during the U-13/14 New England Revolution and Beachside Soccer Club game on Saturday and the U-15/16s New England Revolution and BW Gottschee game on Sunday. Deblois has been working Academy games since 2011 and has also worked PDL and NPSL games.
