11 Virginia High School League state soccer champions crowned

With the end of another school year, the Virginia High School League crowned eleven soccer champions just days before most of the star players on those teams graduate.

Only one matchup went to Overtime this year, where 6A repeat champions Battlefield scored to force OT in the final minutes of regulation against Virginia Beach powerhouse Cox, then netted home for the winner as the clock nearly PK shootout purgatory.

Three schools had teams in both boys and girls finals. In 2A, Broad Run’s girls won 3-0 over local rivals Stone Bridge, while the boys could not get past Mills Godwin, going down 2-0. 4A saw Blacksburg’s boys lose 1-2 to Kettle Run, but their girls winning 1-0 over Western Albemarle. And, as seems to happen more often than not, George Mason’s boys and girls teams both took home titles, with the boys cruising 4-0 past Martinsville, and the girls securing a 2-goal win over Maggie Walker in 2A action.

Here is the list of Champions and Finalists, with scores:

6A Boys: Langley 2, James Madison 0 [bracket]
6A Girls:  Battlefield 2 (3 OT), Cox 1 [bracket]

5A Boys: Mills Godwin 2, Broad Run 0 [bracket]
