In this edition we will showcase Elin Edwards, who plays for Tampa Bay United in the ECNL, and has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I soccer for Coastal Carolina University in 2028.

What made you decide to verbally commit to Coastal Carolina?
From my first conversations with the coaches, I felt like Coastal Carolina was somewhere I could really see myself. When I went on my official visit, it just confirmed that feeling. I loved the campus, the team culture, and how comfortable I felt around the coaches and players. I really liked the coaches’ vision for me as a player and felt like they believed in me and what I could bring to the program. Coastal felt like a place where I could be challenged, develop as a player and person, and be part of something special. It just felt like home, and I knew it was where I wanted to be.
What was the recruiting process like and what did you learn about yourself while going through it?
The recruiting process was exciting, but it was also stressful at times. There are so many things you can’t control, and I had to learn to trust the process and keep working even when I didn’t know what was going to happen. I went to a lot of camps, talked to different coaches, visited schools and tried to find the place that was the best fit for me. I think the biggest thing I learned about myself is that I’m pretty resilient. I learned not to let one bad play, one coach’s opinion or one setback define me. I just kept working and believed that the right opportunity would come.
How do you feel your strengths on the field will help the Chanticleers?
After watching their game on my offical visit it was clear that their playing style is a lot like mine. I think I bring a lot of energy and competitiveness every time I step on the field. I love attacking players 1v1, making runs, creating chances and scoring goals, but I’m also willing to do the work defensively and press to win the ball back. I play with a lot of speed and intensity and I’m not afraid to be physical or do the dirty work. I think my versatility in the attack and my work rate will allow me to help the Chanticleers win a conference championship. GO CHANTS!
What are your favorite subjects in school and what do you think you would like to study in college?
Chemistry and Marine Science are my top subjects. I am going in undecided but leaning toward Biology, Sports Medicine or Marine Science.
What has your experience been like playing for Tampa Bay United in the ECNL?
Playing for Tampa Bay United ECNL has been a huge part of my development. I’ve been able to compete against some of the best players and teams in the country, and that has pushed me to become a better player. Some of my favorite soccer memories have come from traveling and competing with my team. I’m really grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve had there.
What are your favorite pair of cleats that you have ever owned?
Nike Phantom Luna 2 Elite- Electric Olympic Safari- I love the orange cheetah print on the heel.
If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player that wants to play at a high level, what would it be?
Listen to your mom.
Don’t let others get in your head or put you down. PROVE Haters WRONG.
Control what you can control—your effort, your attitude and how hard you’re willing to work.
Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to who has helped you both on and off of the field?
There are so many people who have helped me get to this point. I’m really thankful for all of my coaches and trainers who have pushed me and believed in me, and for my teammates who have made this journey so much fun. I especially want to thank my family. My mom and sister have been there through every part of the recruiting process and have sacrificed so much to help me chase this goal. They’ve supported me each day and reminded me to believe in myself.
