U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team picks up 2-0 win over Brazil
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team defeated Brazil, 2-0, in the first of two matches among these two 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup-qualified teams as Houston Dash forward Linda Ullmark scored in the first half and San Diego Wave midfielder Kimmi Ascanio tallied in the second.
The match was played in front of 1,600 fans at CPKC Stadium, home to the Kansas City Current of the NWSL and the first purpose-built stadium for women’s soccer.
The USA started a lineup of six college players and five NWSL professionals, and the pros accounted for both goals. The USA opened the scoring in the 24th minute as Seattle Reign FC midfielder Ainsley McCammon skipped a pass on the ground that broke two lines of the Brazilian defense to Ullmark, who raced into the left side of the penalty area and buried her one-on-one chance into the lower left corner from nine yards out. The goal was Ullmark’s third in five U-20 caps.
In the somewhat physical affair, Brazil committed 17 fouls and were shown four yellow cards, but the Americans iced the game in the 76th minute. The goal came off a corner kick from the left side. Angel City FC midfielder Kennedy Fuller sent a bending service into the middle and Ascanio rose high to send a header off the right post and in from six yards out. It was Ascanio’s first goal at the U-20 level after scoring five goals at the U-17 level.
The USA will face the Brazil U-20 WNT again on April 15 at Riverside Stadium (2 p.m. CT), located at the Kansas City Current’s state-of-the-art training facility. The matches are part of the Kansas City Current’s inaugural Teal Rising Week, which runs from April 8-15. Designed to celebrate global women’s soccer, Teal Rising Week features a collection of professional, international and youth talent with elite matches, tournaments, skills challenges, education sessions and more.
The camp and matches are a part of continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Poland from Sept. 5-27. The USA and Brazil are among the 16 nations to have qualified for the tournament. The tournament will feature 24 countries, with the Asia and Africa Confederations yet to qualify their representatives.
The age cut-off for the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup is players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006. This roster is made up of 14 players born in 2006, eight born in 2007 and two, midfielders Nyanya Touray and Ascanio, who were born in 2008.
