Atlanta United Academy goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom signs Homegrown deal

ATLANTA — Atlanta United 2 announced the signing of Academy goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom through the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season. Ransom will become a Homegrown signing effective Jan. 1, 2027, running through 2028 with club options for 2029 and 2030.

Ransom joined the Academy in 2018 on the U-12 team. In the 2024-25 MLS NEXT season, the 17-year-old had nine clean sheets and made two saves in the penalty shootout against Inter Milan’s U-18 team in the Generation adidas Cup quarterfinals. His performance earned him MLS NEXT Player of the Day and helped merit a selection to the 2025 MLS NEXT All-Star Game. In 2025, Ransom was honored with the Christian Carillo Award, given to the ATL UTD Academy player recognized as the best teammate and voted on by Academy coaches.

“Jonathan has been another excellent example of the importance of the link between the Academy and the First Team,” said Director of Methodology Javier Peréz. “It has been incredible to witness Jonathan’s accomplishments with the Academy and his growth with the second team, and we can’t wait to see how he continues to progress through the Club’s pathway.”

Ransom made his ATL UTD 2 debut as a 16-year-old against Inter Miami CF II on June 30, 2023 and has played in 29 matches over the past two seasons, making 47 saves and boasting a 60% save percentage. The Athens native is the youngest goalkeeper to record a clean sheet for ATL UTD 2. Ransom is eligible for the Canadian youth national team, where he has made four appearances. He is also eligible for the United States.
