USC brings in sophomore transfers from Northwestern and Mississippi State

LOS ANGELES – The USC women’s soccer program announced two more additions to its 2025 incoming class this week, welcoming sophomore transfers Tanna Schornstein from Northwestern, and Ines Simas from Mississippi State.

Schornstein, a defender, spent her freshman year at Northwestern, where she played and started in 19 games for the Wildcats. Prior to that, the San Diego native played club soccer for the San Diego Surf Soccer Club.

Simas, a native of Portugal, played her freshman year at Mississippi State, where she helped lead the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament appearance where they were the fourth No.1 seed in the tournament. The midfielder appeared in 20 games and started in 3, including the Bulldogs two SEC conference tournament games.

USC announced its incoming class in November, with the incoming Trojan freshmen ranked the No. 10 class in the nation. Schornstein and Simas are the third and fourth transfers to join USC in the offseason, following Sophia Cavaliere, who joined USC in December, and Amalie Pianim who joined in early May. The Trojans are coming off of a season in which they won a Big Ten Title and advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Graduate of Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA
Played one year of varsity soccer and was named captain
As a centerback at Torrey Pines, tallied ten clean sheets in an undefeated season and was named to the All-League First Team.
Played for San Diego Surf Soccer Club, winning the 2024 ECNL National Champion
Reached the ECNL finals twice, and won the 2023 Surf Cup

Hometown: Lagoa, São Miguel, Portugal
Previous School: Mississippi State

Recorded her first assist and collegiate point against Abilene Christian on Sept. 12
Tallied a career-high 87 minutes in a win during the first round of the SEC Tournament against Tennessee on Nov. 5
Played 54 combined minutes in Mississippi State’s two NCAA Tournament games
Played her club soccer with S.L. Benfica’s academy team
