Goalkeeper Avery Gillahan transfers to Auburn from Iowa State

Auburn, Ala. — Avery Gillahan, a two-year starting goalkeeper from Iowa State, has joined the Auburn soccer program with two seasons of eligibility remaining, head coach James Armstrong announced.
“We are thrilled to add a player of Avery’s caliber to our goalkeeper unit,” Armstrong said. “Not only does she have starting experience at a high level, but she has some great leadership qualities as well, which is something we wanted to focus on in this portal window. We cannot wait for her to get started in her new journey here on The Plains.”
Gillahan started all 36 contests in her two years as a Cyclone, making a jaw-dropping 158 saves, including a career-best 96 last season. Her 96 stops ranked seventh nationally amongst Power 4 keepers.
The Strongsville, Ohio native owns a 1.70 career goals-against average with a 0.725 career save percentage and eight clean sheets.
She was named the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week last fall after making six saves in a shutout effort against Kansas State. She also earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week twice the year prior thanks to 20 saves and three clean sheets against Northern Colorado, Kansas and Kansas State.
Academically, Gillahan is a member of the Academic All-Big 12 Team, a four-time member of the Big-12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District last fall.
Prior to college, Gillahan played club soccer with Internationals SC, where she was a four-year starter. Gillahan led her club to ECNL national playoffs in 2021. She was also a four-time honor roll member and honors graduate from Strongsville High School.
