American University men’s soccer coach Todd West steps down
WASHINGTON (Via American University) – American University men’s soccer head coach Todd West will leave the university to pursue other professional opportunities, the department of athletics and recreation announced Monday.
West, who just finished his 19th season as head coach at American, directed the team to a 4-9-5 record in 2018 and tied for fifth in the Patriot League with a 3-3-3 mark.
“My time at American has been tremendously rewarding and I move on with memories that will last a lifetime,” said West. “Although this is a tough decision, I feel this is a good time for me to pursue other opportunities in my career.
“I want to thank all our student-athletes, my assistant coaches through the years, and the alumni who have made American a special program in men’s soccer. I am proud of our accomplishments and feel that we leave the program in good shape.”
“We thank Todd for his commitment and long-standing tenure at American,” said Dr. Billy Walker, AU’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “We certainly wish him and his family well in the future and appreciate his service to our student-athletes.”
Walker said a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
