Richmond United announces 12 boys college commitments

RICHMOND, VA (Via Richmond Kickers & Richmond Strikers) – On National Signing Day, on which top club soccer players from around the nation make their college choices, the Richmond Kickers and Richmond Strikers have announced that 12 Richmond United players have committed to play soccer at nine universities for the fall 2016 season.

After spending time with the Richmond Kickers pro team, goalkeeper Drew Romig will continue his soccer career at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Brandon Hackenberg committed to Penn State while Jake Gelnovatch and Keenan O’Shea will play at the University of Louisville and the United States Military Academy, respectively.

Headed to the University of Virginia is Victor Falck with Anthony Astruc continuing on to Hampden-Sydney College, Ryan Lesher committing to Washington and Lee University and Sawyer Gaffney choosing Davidson College.

Four players have committed to Virginia Commonwealth University with Travis Cooke, Anthony Gonnella, Austin Graham and Kelley Walters representing the Rams this fall.

In 2014, the Richmond Kickers and Richmond Strikers introduced Richmond United, a collaborative program designed to serve the most talented male and female players in the region. The joint venture joined Central Virginia’s top two girls and boys programs into a developmental powerhouse that compete on the national stage. Richmond United Boys compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and the Richmond United Girls compete in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL).
