GW’s Sofia Pavon nabs A-10 Rookie of the Week honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Via George Washington University) – George Washington women’s soccer freshman Sofia Pavon was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the final week of non-conference play, the league announced on Monday.
Pavon led the Colonials to a 2-0 victory over UMBC on Thursday with the first two goals of her career. The Chicago native netted the eventual gamewinner in the 14th minute on a shot from far outside of the box into the top right corner of the net. Then, in the 21st minute, Pavon received a pass from classmate Dani Frese, dribbled into the right side of the box and lofted the ball over UMBC’s keeper to wrap the day’s scoring.
Thursday marked GW’s fourth consecutive win to conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Pavon is the first Colonial to earn Rookie of the Week honors since teammate Miranda Horn on Oct. 20, 2014.
