SoccerWire is publishing Q&A articles with players who have Featured Profiles in the SoccerWire Recruiting Directory. The series allows players to share their stories on the college recruiting process, playing the game at the international level, travel and high school soccer, and their passion for the beautiful game.

In this edition we will showcase Virginia Grace Heide, who plays for Alabama FC in the ECNL, and has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I soccer for William & Mary in 2027.

What made you decide to verbally commit to William & Mary?

I decided to commit because I loved meeting the coaches and the team and it really felt like home for me! William and Mary checked all of my boxes, and it is a great balance of an academically challenging school alongside a great soccer program!

What was the recruiting process like and what did you learn about yourself while going through it?

I will say that the recruiting process had many highs and lows. One week I would be really excited and the next wondering what was going to happen. I realized that I had an amazing support system surrounding me and that I was very blessed.

How do you feel your strengths on the field will help the Tribe?

I feel like my playing style and William & Mary’s have a lot in common. So I am just looking to continue to grow and hopefully be a large contributor to the Tribe in the future.

What are your favorite subjects in school and what do you think you would like to study in college?

My favorite subjects are Math and Science (specifically biology). I hope to study biology on the pre med track with the hopes of becoming a Neonatologist!

What has your experience been like playing for Alabama FC in the ECNL?

Alabama FC is awesome! I have been a part of the club my entire soccer career, and I have had the best experience! I LOVE MY TEAMMATES! I have no words to describe them but they have supported me like no one else! The ECNL is a tough league but it also helps you continue to grow as a player!

What are your favorite pair of cleats that you have ever owned?

I am not going to lie I change cleats all the time, but I will never leave the Nike brand. I have had the same goalie gloves for more than 5 years and they are my favorites! Keepher Gloves are designed specifically for women’s hands and are amazing! I highly recommend!

If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player that wants to play at a high level, what would it be?

The advice that I would give is work hard but always believe in yourself. You will not grow as a player if your confidence does not grow with you! Confidence can change your performance and perspective on the game!

Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to who has helped you both on and off of the field?

I would like to give a special shout out to my family. They have driven me to countless practices and games without complaints and were always there for me throughout this process! I also wanted to mention my younger brother who is my biggest cheerleader and is now all decked out in William & Mary merch!
