Pitt women’s soccer signs Iceland U-19 National Team member

PITTSBURGH (Via University of Pittsburgh) – University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer head coach Randy Waldrum has added another National Team player, as U19 Icelandic National Team member Margrét Árnadóttir joins the Panther program.

“It’s great adding Margrét to the Pitt women’s soccer family,” said Waldrum. “Her youth national team and Champions League experience will be great for our team. After getting to know Margrét, she’ll be a great representative for our University. This now makes the third player coming in for 2019 with U-20 World Cup, Champions League, and Youth National team experience. Our fans are going to enjoy watching this team play!”


The commitment marks the second national team signee of the month for Waldrum and the Panthers after adding Hollie Olding, a transfer from Kentucky and British national team selection. She is the third in the class with national team expereince, as incoming freshman Athalie Palomo has laced up with the Mexican squad.

A native of Akureyri, Iceland, Árnadóttir has played in the European Champions League with Þór/KA, most recently earning the distictinction as the team’s top player during the 2018 season.

Árnadóttir earned national team experience with the U17 Icelandic squad before graduating to the U19 team. The striker has help lead Þór/KA to two championship titles, and has won multiple MVP and various honors with the program.
