Maryland women’s soccer earns 3-2 win over William & Mary
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Via University of Maryland) – Sophomore Jarena Harmon recorded a hat trick to push Maryland past William & Mary, 3-2, Thursday night at Martin Family Stadium.
With the win, Ray Leone earned his first career victory as Maryland head coach. The Terrapins (1-1-1) fought out of an early hole behind Harmon and a solid defensive effort in the second half.
William & Mary jumped on the Terps with an early goal as Sarah Segen struck in the second minute to put the Tribe up 1-0. Maryland answered back in the sixth minute. Harmon’s pressure on the Tribe backline paid dividends as she stole an errant back pass off goalkeeper Grace Smith and tapped the ball in the back of the net to tie the match.

Harmon gave Maryland the lead in the 14th minute. Smith’s failed clearance deflected off the Maryland sophomore and into the back of the net.
The back-and-forth action continued when William & Mary knotted the match at 2-2 in the 26th minute on a Kady Kriner strike. The Terps then withstood some Tribe pressure to get into the half tied.

The Terps took the lead for good in the 63rd minute. Junior Kate Waters delivered a long angled ball over the top that Harmon touched into the back of the net after a collision between Smith and a Tribe defender.
Harmon’s hat trick was Maryland’s first since 2013 (Hayley Brock vs. Villanova) and represented her first three goals as a Terp. Waters’ assist was her first in a Maryland uniform.
