Washington Spirit, PWSI coach Lloyd Yaxley training U.S. U-18 WNT goalkeepers

Washington Spirit goalkeeper coach and Prince William Courage Girls Director of Coaching Lloyd Yaxley is in San Diego this week working with the U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team goalkeepers during the team’s training camp.

“Really looking forward to heading out to San Diego to work with the U-18 women’s national team goalkeepers at the Olympic training centre in Chula Vista,” Yaxley wrote on his Facebook page on Oct. 18.

Yaxley, who has been a member of the Spirit coaching staff since the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League in 2013, is training Team USA goalkeepers Amanda Dennis (Slammers FC; Murrieta, Calif.), Shelby Hogan (FC Stars of Massachusetts; Franklin, Mass.), Gabrielle Kouzelos (Internationals; Wadsworth, Ohio) and Amanda McGlynn (Jacksonville United; Jacksonville, Fla.).

Since moving to the United States from England, Yaxley has coached for the Spirit, D.C. United Women, Lee-Mount Vernon Sports Club (LMVSC), Loudoun Soccer Club, Chantilly High School, Burke Athletic Club and Southwestern Youth Association (SYA).

“Lloyd is a top professional who is proven at developing goalkeepers and getting the best out of them,” said former Spirit head coach and general manager Mark Parsons, who recently signed with Portland Thorns FC. “He will be a huge asset to the U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team’s and fully deserves this opportunity.”

The current U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team camp began on Oct. 18 and concludes on Oct. 25.
