No. 3 Clemson men’s soccer draws High Point 1-1 in preseason

CLEMSON, S.C. (Via Clemson University) – The Clemson men’s soccer team hosted High Point Tuesday night in the Tigers’ second exhibition contest of the preseason. Clemson tied the Panthers 1-1 at Historic Riggs Field after a full 90 minutes on Tuesday night in their final home exhibition match.

The Tigers jumped out to the lead in the 26th minute after senior Alex Happi pounced on a loose ball at the top of the box, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. With one minute remaining in the first half, the Panthers equalized the score at one, with a goal by Siggi Benonysson. In the second half, Clemson created some quality chances early on, but could not capitalize.

“Another good exercise, I thought we got to look at a lot of different players tonight. It was great to see how the first year players performed,” said Head Coach Mike Noonan. “High Point is a very aggressive, well-organized and tough team to play. I thought for the first 25 minutes we looked like a soccer team. With factors throughout the game and their play, it led us to drop our level of play. This is what preseason is for and our players will learn from this.”

Clemson will be back in action on Friday night when it travels to Duke for its final exhibition match. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The regular season opener for the Tigers is at South Carolina on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Columbia.
