New York Red Bulls U-18 (2) vs. Seacoast United (1)

EPPING, NH (May 14, 2016) – Barry Sharifi scored a dramatic late winner as the New York Red Bulls beat Seacoast United 2-1 in Epping, New Hampshire.

Brian Saramago put the Red Bulls in front when he stroked in a shot on the 35th minute. Anthony Herbert won the ball and carried it out of defense before playing into Barry Sharifi who played a superb through ball for Saramago to score.

Brian Saramago looked dangerous on the break for the Red Bulls and would go close on a number of occasions to extending the lead only to be denied by excellent Seacoast goalkeeper. The best save came at the end of the first half when Saramago cross found Sean Teixeria who looked destined to score with his point blank header only to be denied by another flying save.

The Red Bulls controlled play early in the second half but could not find the break through for that all important second goal.

After the hour mark Seacoast started to assert themselves on the match and would score in the 70th minute level match. The Red Bulls would miss a penalty moments late but kept pushing for the three points and were rewarded when Rodrigo D’Andrea defensive head went over the advancing Seacoast Goalkeeper for Barry Sharifi to head in at the back post to give the Red Bulls a deserved lead.

“After two slow starts in our two previous games we wanted to come out fast and with high intensity” Man of the Match Barry Sharifi said. “On the road we knew it wouldn’t be easy, however we kept working hard and notched a goal in the final minutes of the game.”

The Red Bulls next game will be away against local MLS rivals Philadelphia Union on Saturday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (5) at New York Soccer Club (0)

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (May 15, 2016) – The Red Bulls U-14s recorded a 5-0 win at New York Soccer Club in perhaps their most complete game from start to finish over the course of the season.

Man of the Match Aziel Jackson opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his eighth goal of the season. Forward Dylan Sullivan pressured the NYSC defender and forced a turnover and slipped the ball to Jackson at the top of the penalty box. Jackson then blasted a shot into the lower right hand corner of the goal.

The lead was doubled less than 45 seconds later when the Red Bulls’ pressure forced another turnover 20 yards from goal. Jackson was fouled and the referee awarded an indirect free kick. He tapped the free kick to forward Scotty Taylor who blasted his shot into the top corner.

The Red Bulls continued to dominate the first half. Midfielder Peter Stroud made a great run past two defenders and was taken down inside the penalty box. Stroud converted the penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

Man of the Match, Aziel Jackson stated, “At half time we talked about matching their intensity, but playing with more intelligence and match management, they were fouling a lot in the game and we to compete but not do anything stupid. We knew the next goal would decide the game.”

Despite some initial pressure to open the second half, the Red Bulls created several chances to build on their lead. In the 65th minute, defender Jayden Reid was fouled in the penalty box and he converted the ensuing penalty kick for his third goal of the season. Jackson completed the scoring in the 78th minute when he blasted a direct free kick from 25-yards into the lower left hand corner of the goal.

“This was perhaps our most complete performance from start to finish this season. Every player competed and contributed. The team was able to play put of pressure at times and when needed we played direct to our forwards up top. Perhaps the most rewarding part of the game was that the players made adjustments during the game on their own and they were able to figure out what was needed based on what the opponent did” stated Head Coach Paul O’Donnell.
