LA Galaxy U-16s fall to Club Tijuana in International Tournament Final

(Via LA Galaxy) – The LA Galaxy Academy U-16’s fell 4-2 to Club Tijuana in the Liga Bancomber International Tournament Final on Saturday, August 13 at Esatdio Azteca.

The Xolos opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Daniel López hit a volley off the bounce to score a golazo into the upper left hand corner of the net. They would then double their lead in the 30th minute as Jorge Navarro found space to head home a corner kick to make the score 2-0 before half.

Second half substitute Kevin Negrete wasted no time making an impact, heading home a long ball to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Xolos were able to extend their lead just three minutes later, however, as López was able to collect a cross and tap it in to extend the scoreline to 3-1.

In the 51st minute, the Galaxy pulled back a goal as Negrete tapped home a perfect square ball. Despite increasing the pressure in the final minutes, including a long-range attempt that rattle the crossbar, the Xolos would put the game out of reach in the 68th minute from an individual effort by Jaime Velázquez.

The Galaxy finished runner-up by way of defeating Philadelphia Union, FC Dallas and San Jose Earthquakes. The Galaxy also earned a draw against Pumas and fell to Pachuca, Club Santos, and Club Tijuana in group play.
