Ken Krieger departs as McLean Youth Soccer boys technical director

Ken Krieger has left McLean Youth Soccer (MYS) after joining the club as boys technical director in February 2014.

Krieger’s departure is the result of a mutual decision between him and the club, due to differing views on the direction and structure of the organization.

“We wish Ken all the best and thank him for his service to the players, coaches and staff,” stated MYS executive director Louise Waxler.

Girls technical director Clyde Watson will take over all duties as club technical director during the transition period.

Along with Watson, the current MYS travel director staff includes U13-U18 boys age group director Jamil Faryadi, U13-U18 girls age group director Cindi Harkes and recently added U-8 to U-12 girls age group director Diane Drake, the former George Mason University women’s soccer coach.

Former U.S. Men’s National Team player John Harkes joined the club in a technical adviser role in March 2015 as well.

MYS is a member of the Club Champions League (CCL), which includes both boys and girls travel competition from U-9 to U-18. McLean is also an Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) member club, which provides top girls competition in the U-14 to U-18 and U-23 age groups. The club was a member of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) until 2013.

Krieger, the father of U.S. Women’s National Team and Washington Spirit player Ali Krieger, has been a successful youth, high school and college coach for more than 30 years. He holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “A” coaching license and an NSCAA Director of Coaching diploma, and was inducted into the VYSA Hall of Fame in 2010. He spent nearly 25 years helping grow the Prince William Soccer, Inc. (PWSI) organization before joining MYS last year. He led PWSI teams to the US Youth Soccer National Championship semifinals in 1996 and the final in 2000, and his teams have won more than 15 Virginia State Cups over the years.

In other MYS news, McLean 00 Boys Green, coached by Jamil Walker, advanced to the 2015 US Youth Soccer National Championships, and placed third in their group with a 1-1-1 record. They played Northern California side PDA SJ Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw in their final match at Nationals on Thursday.
