(Via Global Premier Soccer) – The GPS Maine U-14 Boys and GPS New Hampshire NPL U-15 Boys were crowned national champions this week at the US Club Soccer National Cup XV Finals.
At the event, held in Aurora, Colorado the NH boys lifted the Supergroup title while the Maine boys were successful in the Premier bracket. GPS had an additional three finalists (GU13 NH, GU15 and BU15 ME) at the prestigious tournament which saw State and Regional champions from across the U.S. compete across two divisions, Premier and Supergroup.
The U15s, led by John Price, concluded a fantastic season, which saw them winners of the New England NPL and NH State Champions. In the final the boys faced off against STA Morris of New Jersey and after conceding an early goal, strikes from Max Elesser and Devin Garret (2) ensured a 3-2 win despite a late goal from the Mid-Atlantic team. Meanwhile the Maine boys also had a close final game against Fredericksburg FC, eventually triumphing 2-1 in overtime in a tense encounter.
“We are very proud of the achievements of the NH and ME teams this past week,” said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “Both groups are part of two of our earliest locations outside of MA and we are delighted they have lifted their first National titles respectively,” said Bradley.
GPS Maine was the first GPS location outside of Massachusetts, beginning in 2009. The club has grown to be one of the biggest and most successful in the Pine Tree State, lifting eight State Championships this past year. The club also fields a team (GPS Portland Phoenix) in the USL U23 Premier Development League and were divisional champions this past summer.
GPS New Hampshire began in 2011 and has also enjoyed tremendous success since inception, lifting six State Cup titles this season. In 2015, they opened their lighted two-field GPS New Hampshire Turf Complex in Bedford, NH to become the permanent home of the club’s Premier and Junior Premier programs.
