D.C. United announced today multiple green initiatives to be held Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Scheduled events and activities are made possible due to consideration from MLS W.O.R.K.S., Events DC and Bonneville Environmental Foundation. United hosts New York on Sunday, April 22 at RFK Stadium before a national television audience on espn2. Kickoff for the match is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, April 21, D.C. United will commence Earth Day initiatives with a United Builds event as part of the Anacostia Watershed Society’s cleanup and celebration. D.C. United staff and volunteers will perform a cleanup of Kingman Island/Lot 6 of RFK Stadium. The event will conclude with an event-wide celebration featuring volunteers from all of the cleanup day locations in addition to DC Government officials, and an appearance by Josh Wolff.
Events continue at Sunday’s Atlantic Cup rivalry. Portland, Ore.-based Bonneville Environmental Foundation will offset 100 percent of the electricity used at RFK Stadium during the match. The initiative will be performed using Renewable Energy Certificates (100 percent wind resources) purchased from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, and will support enough wind energy to power an average U.S. home for over 23 years.
In addition to the electricity offset, the National Resources Defense Council will provide Eco-Tip Post Cards upon entry into the stadium and 1,000 seed packets provided by the America the Beautiful Fund will be distributed postgame.
