Bethesda Showcase kicks off Atlantic Soccer league season

The Atlantic Soccer League (ASL) kicked off the 2012-13 year with the girls’ event weekend as part of the Bethesda Thanksgiving Showcase. The Maryland Soccerplex played host to ASL girls teams from Atlanta to New York in the U14 to U17 age groups, playing 3 matches on the weekend in a one game a day format.

Clubs from 8 states including Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia competed in front of over a hundred college coaches in one of the top soccer specific facilities in the country.

“The ASL is extremely pleased with Bethesda Showcase partnership and is convinced that such a successful opening event weekend will only continue to attract other top soccer clubs into ASL from around the region,” said commissioner Kevin Darcy. “Although there are always areas to continually improve, the expansion into girls divisions since year 2 has exceeded our expectations and promises to be an attractive league for future membership.”

ASL returns to Bethesda this weekend for the boy’s kick-off event with the hopes of great weather and competitive matches.

The ASL has scheduled four major events throughout the fall, winter and spring and will culminate in a season-ending championship tournament in conjunction with the the US Club Soccer regionals June 2013 in Richmond. The 2012 season has kicked-off at the Bethesda Thanksgiving Showcase in Maryland, and is followed by the Triangle Friendlies event weekend in Fayetteville, NC. The Richmond Strikers will again play host to ASL teams in the prestigious Jefferson Cup Tournament and to finish the regular season SAC will host the Columbia Showcase, on Memorial Day weekend in Columbia, Md.
