Signs of hope for Real Maryland?

By Charles Boehm

A month after announcing that his club would have to shut down operations for the 2013 season due to issues with its ownership group, Real Maryland FC general manager David Noyes sent out a holiday greeting email to supporters and members of the media on Christmas day which hinted at a positive breakthrough for the USL Premier Development League club and its youth branch, Future Soccer Club, in the new year.

“Please remember what is important this time [of] year, hug those around you tightly and spread the good cheer to everyone,” wrote Noyes.

“I can’t wait to see all of you in 2013 with some special new announcements regarding Real Maryland FC and Future Soccer Club.”

Noyes had previously stated that RMFC’s ownership group “decided to forgo next season as they have turned their attentions in another direction,” stating that the club’s rights thus transferred to the United Soccer Leagues.

He subsequently held an equipment sale at Real Maryland’s office at which all remaining team gear was available for $10 per item.

But in his Christmas email, Noyes included a coupon – with no expiration date — offering a 10 percent discount on player fees to club members who successfully refer friends to join RMFC teams.

Intriguingly, he concluded his message with a new signature: “Owner/GM.”

It sounds as if there may still be some life left in Real Maryland.
