U.S. U-18 MNT wins three straight friendlies in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team swept three international friendlies in Argentina, defeating San Lorenzo (2-1), Racing Club (3-2) and Uruguay (2-1) during its March training camp.

In the first match against San Lorenzo, the USA was quick to get on the board, notching a goal within the first minute. U.S. forward Nick Taitague took a corner kick, sending the ball across the box where it was met by defender Angel Uribe’s head for the early tally. In the 42nd minute, Taitague drew a penalty kick and stepped up to slot the ball past the San Lorenzo goalkeeper for the winning goal.

The U.S. dominated early in its second match against Racing Club a s well. USA forward Griffin Dorsey scored in just the seventh minute from a pass by Jonathan Gonzalez. Minutes later, Taitague converted a penalty. In the 48th minute, the USA’s Aristole Zarris sent a cross toward goal, connecting with Justin Rennicks to collect the game-winning goal.

In the final matchup in Argentina, the U-18s took on Uruguay’s U-18 MNT. The U.S. came out of halftime down 0-1 until Daniel Jones sprinted down the left flank and crossed the ball through the box. Dorsey collected the ball low and equalized in the 48th minute. The game-winning goal came in the 60th minute when U.S. forward Lucas de Rosario picked up a deflection off the Uruguay goalkeeper, and put the ball in the back of the net to finish the game.

The U-18 MNT will next hold training camp from April 23-30 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
