North Carolina atop Division I men’s top-25 poll

By Jimmy LaRoue

North Carolina retained the top spot in the NSCAA NCAA Division I men’s top-25 poll, though it will likely fall from the top perch after a 1-0 loss to James Madison Tuesday, after the poll was released.

North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech 2-0 Saturday in the ACC opener for both teams. Creighton moves up one spot to No. 2 after a 1-0 win over Santa Clara last Friday. Maryland moves up to No. 3 after a 4-0 win last Friday over Boston College.

Connecticut stays at No. 4 after defeating Washington 1-0 last Friday and tying Boston University 1-1 Sunday.

Charlotte moved up two spots to round out the top five with wins on the road over Stony Brook and Kentucky in the University of Kentucky Invitational.

UC Santa Barbara, New Mexico, soon-to-be ACC school Notre Dame, Akron and St. John’s round out the top 10.

South Florida fell from No. 2 to No. 11 after splitting a pair of games over the weekend, losing for the first time 1-0 to South Carolina and then rallying for a 2-1 win over Iona.
