Local teams to clash with nation’s elite at Disney Showcase in Orlando

One of the top elite youth soccer tournaments in the country begins today as Disney’s 2011 Boys Soccer Showcase kicks off in Orlando, Fla. with 300 accepted teams taking part, including 24 teams from Virginia and Maryland.
Games will take place through Dec. 30 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale and Austin-Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, giving players a chance to display their talents before coaches from 300 college programs throughout the U.S.
Pool play began today at 8:30 a.m. and will run throughout the day and evening through Dec. 29. The semifinals and finals will take place Dec. 30, with the final being shown Dec. 30 on ESPN3’s online broadcast at 2 p.m.
The girls will begin play Dec. 31 and continue through Jan. 3, with 268 teams participating and 20 local teams making the trip to Florida.
