FC Virginia (7-4-1, 22 points) gave themselves some breathing room for third place in the Atlantic Division on Saturday by earning a 2-0 win over Cedar Stars Academy-Monmouth (4-6-2, 14 points). Isabella Thissell gave Virginia the lead with her strike in the ninth minute, her second goal on the season. In the second half, Virginia added an insurance goal courtesy of Ashley Rauch in the 47th minute. The shutout was Virginia’s sixth on the season and second in as many games.

Top of the Atlantic table Sky Blue-PDA (10-0-2, 35 points) stretched their unbeaten run to 12 matches with a 2-0 win over second-place Penn Fusion Academy (7-2-1, 22 points). Ashley Raino (33’) and Riena Parente (80’)  provided the goals for Sky Blue, while goalkeeper Maggie Ousouljoglou and the back line held the potent Penn Fusion attack at bey.

In the Northeast, Oakwood Soccer Club (6-3-1, 19 points) moved into third place with a double on the weekend, starting with a 2-0 win over FC Stars (5-4-3, 18 points) on Saturday. Oakwood pulled ahead early in the second with goals from forward Delaney Farinha (17’) and midfielder Amaia Astiasaran (20’). Goalkeeper Kaelen Fabry and the Oakwood back line notched their third shutout on the season.

Oakwood followed Saturday’s effort with another impressive result, this time downing Empire United 2-0. Things were bit dicey in the first half with Empire holding Oakwood scoreless, but in the second half, their attack came alive with defender Kendall Price (46’) and forward Jaci Budaj (49’) supplying the goals for the home side.

U-16/U-17

Penn Fusion (9-0-1, 28 points) held onto their top spot in the Atlantic Division with a 1-1 draw against second-place against Sky Blue-PDA (8-3-1, 25 points). Penn took the lead early thanks to midfielder Rowan Lapi’s strike in the third minute. It looked like they may have walked away with all three points, but a caution on goalkeeper Mia Reed in the 84th minute gave Sky Blue a chance late to equalize. Sky Blue made the most of their opportunity with Julianne Leskauskas converting the penalty kick chance in the 85th minute.

With both Penn Fusion and Sky Blue earning just a point on the weekend, FC Virginia looked to narrow the gap in the top three in their match against Cedar Stars Academy-Monmouth. Carrie McIntire’s brace (22’ and 88’) coupled with an Alexis Theoret goal in the 80th minute was enough to put Virginia within three and five points respectively of the division leaders. Virginia goalkeeper Gwenyth Hoyt and the FCV back line also secured their fifth shutout on the season.

Virginia Development Academy (3-8-1, 10 points) snapped a three-game losing streak with their 2-1 win over Washington Spirit Academy-Baltimore Armour (3-8-0, 9 points). VDA took a 2-0 lead late into the match with goals from Carleigh Frilles (47’) and Brooke Potter (70’). Spirit Academy made things interesting in the dying moments of the match with Ellie Stokes narrowing VDA’s lead to one in the 89th minute, but Virginia held on to earn their third win on the season.

In the Northeast, Empire United (1-8-0, 3 points) claimed their first win of the 2017-2018 with a 1-0 result over Sky Blue-NYSC (4-6-0, 12 points). Emily Parker gave Empire the lead early with her goal in the 11th minute, and the New York-based side held on in the second half with a strong defensive effort.

Oakwood Soccer Club earned a 5-0 win over Empire on Sunday. Midfielder Natalie Tavana (25’ and 35’) and forward Lumi Kostmayer (47’ and 88’) each scored twice for Oakwood, while Vanessa Benjamin (4’) provided the fifth goal in the winning effort. Sunday’s result coupled with a 2-0 win on the road on Saturday over FC Stars (Imani Jenkins-8’ and Allie Raynor-36’) pushed Oakwood into second place.

In the Southeast, NTH Tophat (8-0-1, 25 points) held off a determined United Soccer Alliance (5-1-2, 17 points) side at home, registering a 2-2 draw. Sydney Hauth (20’) and an own goal (31’) gave USA the early 2-0 advantage, but Tophat came back though in the second half. In the 60th minute, Sofia Black put Tophat within one, netting her first on the season. The equalizer came in the 90th minute courtesy of Dasia Torbert.

United Futbol Academy (1-4-4, 7 points) took their first win on the season on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Weston FC (3-4-2, 11 points). Forward Layton Glisson gave UFA the match-winner in the 80th minute after a series close attempts were unable to find the back of the net. The win coupled with their 0-0 draw on Saturday against Boca United Football Club not only doubled their point total on the season, but also posted their first two shutouts as well.

U18/U19

It was a battle of the top two sides in the Atlantic Division on Saturday when Penn Fusion Academy (9-1-0, 27 points) hosted Sky Blue PDA (10-2-0, 30 points). Midfielders Rachel Dorwart (21’) and Emily Gray (29’) gave Penn Fusion the early 2-0 advantage. However, Sky Blue cut that lead to one in the 30th minute with midfielder Emily Leyson’s third goal of the season. But the Penn Fusion defense held on against a tough Sky Blue side for 60 minutes, and Dorwart struck again in injury time to give Penn Fusion the three points and a major victory over their rivals.

FC Virginia (9-3-0, 27 points) earned a 4-0 win over Cedar Stars Academy-Monmouth (3-9-0, 9 points), keeping up with both Penn Fusion and Sky Blue in the standings. Victoria Powell led the charge with two goals (31’and 51’) and was joined in the box score by Emilene Panham (33’) and Samantha Odeh (69’). The win extends their unbeaten run to six and gives them their eighth shutout on the season.

In the Northeast, Boston Breakers Academy (7-3-0, 21 points) moved into second place with their 8-3 win over FC Fury NY (5-6-0, 15 points). Gabriella Delpicco (11’, 65’, and 87’), Mia Otero (49’). Lily Matthews (53’ and 82’), Olivia Hicks (55’), and Zoie Allen (78’) all scored for the home side. The eight-goal barrage put them at 34 on the season, the most among any side in the Northeast Division. FC Fury’s goals all came in the second half from Kaelynn Britt (61’), Alicia D’Aoust (74’), and Madeline Gravante (86’).

New York City FC (8-2-2, 26 points) remains atop of the Northeast with their 4-0 win over Long Island SC (2-8-0, 6 points). Emma Hou (51’ and 55’) and Audrey Lee (58’ and 66’) each scored a brace against their in-state rivals.

Finally in the Southeast, Concorde Fire (8-1-0, 24 points) earned six points on the weekend with a pair of 1-0 results over Weston FC (1-7-1, 4 points) and Boca United Football Club (1-7-1, 4 points). Both matches had a very similar storyline with the Concorde defense coming up big in the first half and the Fire attack pulling through in the second half. Defender Brandi Patterson (56’) provided the match-winner against Weston on Saturday, while forward Morgan Smith (75’) did the same on Sunday against Boca. Goalkeepers Tyler Speaks and Addison Corn each earned a shutout on the weekend. Concorde have allowed just four goals on the season, third-lowest in the Southeast Division and across the entire East Conference.

NTH Tophat (8-0-1, 25 points) remains on top with their 4-0 win over the United Soccer Alliance (0-5-2, 2 points). An own goal in the first minute gave NTH the very early advantage, while goals in the second half from Rachel Jones (55’), Raegan Kelley (69’) and Kylie Gazza (74’) helped extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.
