Match Recaps

U-13/14

New York Soccer Club 4, Met Oval 4

Empire State foes New York SC and Met Oval found themselves in a full-blown shootout on Friday evening in Queens, ultimately playing to a 4-4 draw as Oval’s Filip Mirkovic netted a 78th minute equalizer to put a fitting end to the back-and-forth match. Rasheed Martin and Vasilios Brisnovalis provided Oval with an early 2-0 lead, finding the net in the 11th and 12th minutes respectively, giving the game the feel of a potential blowout. However, New York SC stormed back to take the lead as Alessandro Horvath-Diano scored twice to equalize by the 45th minute and Jalen Anderson put NYSC ahead 3-2 in the 55th.

Martin struck again for Oval to tie the match at 3-3 in the 62nd, but Jafi Alexis countered just eight minutes later for NYSC to re-take the lead. Mirkovic’s decisive equalizer came just eight minutes after that, capping off the see-saw battle between the in-state opponents.

New York Red Bulls 3, Baltimore Armour 2

Scott Taylor recorded a brace which included the game-winning goal in the 75th minute as New York Red Bulls Academy defeated Baltimore Armour 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. Justin Harris gave Baltimore an early lead with a 13th minute strike, but Taylor’s first goal sent the teams into halftime tied at 1-1. Dylan Sullivan gave NYRB its first lead in the 51st minute, but Armour’s Alex Stevenson equalized in the 68th. Taylor’s game-winner propelled NYRB to its fifth win through six matches, its only blemish a 2-2 draw against Cedar Stars Academy on September 19.

U-15/16

Oakwood Soccer Club 1, Montréal Impact FC 1

Two of the top four teams in the Northeast Division met at Caserne Letourneaux, the Impact Training Center in Montréal, on Sunday afternoon as Oakwood SC and Impact FC played to a 1-1 draw. Jean Tano gave the home side a 1-0 advantage just two minutes into the match, but Oakwood relentlessly battled back until their hard work paid off with a Simon Becher equalizer in the 65th minute.

Bethesda-Olney 2, D.C. United 1

Edison Giron netted a 37th minute goal to spot D.C. United a 1-0 halftime lead, but Bethesda-Olney staged an impressive comeback in the second half to earn a victory over their crosstown opponent on Saturday night at Evergreen SportsPlex. It appeared United was on its way to gutting out a win on the rain-soaked evening, but Darius Siahpoosh and Jherson Machado each found the net in a two-minute span to put Olney ahead by the 71st minute. U.S. Youth National Team goalkeeper Cole McNally and the Olney back line clamped down in the second half to hold United scoreless, preserving the team’s second victory of the young season.

U-17/18

Bethesda-Olney 0, D.C. United 2

Two of the premier teams in the highly competitive Atlantic Division squared off on Saturday evening at Evergreen SportsPlex in Leesburg, Virginia, with D.C. United emerging with a 2-0 shutout of Bethesda-Olney. Lucas Mendes put United on top in the 31st minute, giving his side a 1-0 lead which they would cling to until the game’s waning minutes. Nicolas Brown provided an insurance goal in the 89th, while goalkeeper Lance DaSilva and the United back line worked hard to preserve their third clean sheet of the season.

With the win, United sits atop the division along with Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls, who each hold a 4-1-1 record through six games. Olney, which reeled off three straight wins to open the season, is close behind at 4-2-0.

Orlando City SC 6, Chargers Soccer Club 2

Nathaniel Adamolekun and Juan Hernandez each had a brace in a four-goal victory for Orlando City SC, which netted five of its six scores in the second half against Chargers SC on Sunday. Four of those goals came in a span of 13 minutes from the 65th to 78th. Hernandez completed his brace in an 11-minute span, scoring in the 65th and 76th after entering in the 60th. Cormac Begley and David Loera netted in the 50th and 78th respectively, and Adamolekun tallied in the 12th and 70th. Host side Chargers SC rallied for two goals in the second half as well, as Antonio Colacci and Glenn Johnson, found the net, but it would be too little too late after a slow start for their attack.

Orlando City earned its third win in six games to begin the season. The team’s 10 points is good for third place in the 13-team Southeast Division.
