Development Academy: D.C. United, Baltimore Bays Chelsea pick up wins ahead of showdown

Baltimore Bays Chelsea and D.C. United’s Development Academy teams picked up wins over the weekend as a showdown looms between the two clubs.

Baltimore Bays Chelsea’s U-16s remained undefeated at 4-0-0 with a 3-1 win over Potomac, getting two goals from Joseph Hall and another from Alec Smith.

Smith opened the scoring in the fourth minute, and Hall doubled the lead four minutes later. Potomac’s Azaria Honsou cut the lead in half in the 37th minute. In the second half, Hall picked up his second goal of the game in the 71st minute.

In the U-18 matchup, Bays Chelsea (3-1-0) picked up a 2-0 win over 10-man Potomac (0-4-1) with two second half goals in the space of two minutes from Romilio Hernandez (64th minute) and Yaw Amankwa (66th minute).

D.C. United, meanwhile, picked up wins over the Richmond Kickers. United’s U-16s (5-0-0) scored a 7-2 win, getting two-goal performances from Jean-Christophe Koffi and Gerson Umana, as well as goals from Miles Robinson, James Filerman and Michael Monahan. Lyndsey Moreland and Adrian Bills scored for the Kickers (0-4-0).

United’s U-18s got three first half goals to propel them to the win. Denis Najar scored his fourth goal of the season, while Jorge Calix picked up his third goal and Christhyan Najar scored his first. Finnlay Wyatt picked up his fourth goal of the season in the Kickers (2-1-1, who lost for the first time this season.

United and Baltimore Bays Chelsea face off Saturday at Prince George’s Community College on the stadium field (U-18s at 11 a.m., U-16s at 1:30 p.m.).

In other academy action over the weekend, McLean Youth Soccer split games with FC DELCO, with McLean’s U-18s (4-0-1) winning 3-1 behind goals from Kelvin Centeno, Rahim Dorsey and Matthew Ledder. FC DELCO won the U-16 matchup over McLean (1-4-0) 4-1. William Metzler scored the lone goal for McLean in the loss.
