Boys Development Academy East Conference 2017 Fall Season Recap

With the U.S. Soccer Boys’ Development Academy East Conference heading into the winter break, here’s a look back at the top team performances from the fall portion of the 2017-2018 season in the U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 age groups.

U-15

Northeast Division

New England Revolution: MLS academy New England Revolution holds the Northeast Division lead with a 7-3-1 record heading into the mid-season break, with a division-best +14 goal differential, and a division-high 30 goals scored. Forward Andrew Serafino has racked up a team-high 11 goals in 11 games.

Montreal Impact FC: With an 8-4-0 record, Montreal Impact FC has the most wins in the Northeast Division, along with the No. 2 ranked offense and No. 2 defense. Matthew Catavolo‘s nine goals have led the high-scoring attack.

New York City FC: Boasting the toughest defensive unit in the division, NYCFC has conceded just nine goals through its first 13 games, en route to a 7-2-4 start. NYCFC racked up an impressive eight clean sheets during the fall, with goalkeepers Sebastian Cutler and Brandon Hislop splitting time between the posts.

Atlantic Division

New York Red Bulls: Holding the No. 3 overall seed heading into the break with a 10-1-1 record, Red Bulls Academy piled up a division-high 45 goals while conceding only 12 during the fall. Thomas Tulgar has been largely unstoppable, racking up 17 goals in his first 12 appearances.

Philadelphia Union: One of three one-loss teams at the top of the division, Philadelphia is close behind New York at 9-1-3. Selmir Miscic has scored 17 of the Union’s 37 goals in just 11 appearances, including nine starts.

D.C. United: Dead even with Philadelphia for the second-best record, D.C. United has outscored opposing teams by a whopping 19 goals. Jonathan Valladares‘ 10 goals have paced the attack, while goalkeepers Sebastian Conlon and Teddy Hutman have combined with the back line to shut out five of United’s first 13 opponents.

Southeast Division

Concorde Fire: Georgia side Concorde Fire has jumped out to a 9-4-1 start, thanks in large part to an attack which has racked up 40 goals in 14 games, the most in the Southeast Division. Matthew Ushry (10 goals) and Daniel Ramirez (7 goals) have been major catalysts for the balanced offense.

Atlanta United FC: MLS academy Atlanta United FC is less than a game out of first place at 9-4-2, with the second-largest goal differential in the division at +17.  Joseph Collins (8 goals), Kobey Stoup (5 goals) and Aldo Campos (5 goals) have combined to score 18 of Atlanta’s 35 total goals.

Charlotte Soccer Academy: At 7-2-4, Charlotte SA has the fewest losses in the division, and has statistically the best defensive unit with only 15 goals allowed in 13 games. Goalkeepers Caden Noonkester and Andrew Reinhardt have combined with the back line to post four clean sheets.

U-16/17

Northeast Division

BW Gottschee Academy: New York side BW Gottschee Academy enters the winter break with the most goals scored (37) and the fewest allowed (17) through 15 games. Jonathan Ford‘s 10 goals have paced the offense, and the defense has posted four shutouts.

Montreal Impact FC: Close behind Gottschee with a 9-4-1 record, Montreal Impact FC boasts the second-toughest defense, having conceded only 18 goals in 14 games. On the attacking side, Woobens Pacius has led the way with 11 goals.

New York City FC: With 35 goals scored, NYCFC boasts the second-highest scoring offense in the division and a 9-3-4 record. Sal Rasizzi‘s 10 goals have paced the balanced attack.

Atlantic Division

New York Red Bulls: No. 1 overall seed Red Bulls Academy surged to 13 straight wins to open the season, before finally losing to FC Dallas 3-0 at the Winter Showcase. At 14-1-0, the Red Bulls have scored 43 goals, 11 more than the next highest scoring side in the Atlantic. Two players – Scott Taylor (18 goals) and Balthazar Saunders (11 goals) – have combined to outscore every team in their division except for PDA.

Baltimore Armour: Well within the playoff picture, Baltimore Armour reached double-digit victories before the winter break at 10-5-1. Armour’s dominant defensive unit has shut out eight of the team’s first 16 opponents, with Raffaele Mannarelli playing 13 games in net.

Philadelphia Union: Another dominant defensive squad, Philadelphia is tied with Baltimore for the fewest goals allowed with 14. Offensively, 11 players have found the net at least once for the Union’s balanced attacking unit.

Southeast Division

Atlanta United FC: Led by a high-flying offense, Atlanta United enters the winter break with a 12-3-1 record and the No. 6 overall seed in the age group. Jackson Conway (15 goals), Natnael McDonald (9 goals) and Edson Candela-Perez (8 goals) have posed match-up problems for opposing defense all season long.

Chargers SC: Florida side Chargers SC went 10-4-0 in the opening half of the season, piling up 44 goals along the way. William Shuchart (14 goals) and Jeffrey Copper (9 goals) have paced the team’s strong attack so far.

Concorde Fire: Another 10-win side, Concorde Fire is 10-4-2 heading into the break, with a +12 goal differential. Forward Justin Guest, who leads the team with 10 goals, No. 2 leading scorer Leo Bueno (7 goals), and defender Trey Wade have each started all 16 of Concorde’s matches.

U-18/19

Northeast Division

Montreal Impact FC: Behind the top offense unit in the Northeast, Montreal leads the way with a dominant 10-1-2 record. Vincent Lamy (13 goals) is the Impact’s leading scorer in an offense which as found the net 53 total times. Defensively, they have conceded only 13 goals through 13 games.

New York City FC: MLS academy NYCFC has played a litany of close games, posting an 8-2-6 record during the fall slate. They have allowed less than a goal per game, conceding only 14 in 16 matches, which is the best rate in the division. Several U.S. Youth National Team throughout their lineup make NYCFC a title contender.

BW Gottschee Academy: New York’s BW Gottschee Academy is in playoff position, holding the No. 20 seed with a 7-5-2 record. Daquan Brown‘s 11 goals have led the way for Gottschee’s attacking unit.

Atlantic Division

New York Red Bulls: A perfect season is still in the cards for 15-0-0 Red Bulls Academy. Five players have found the net at least seven times each for the offense which has racked up 54 goals, and the defense has only allowed 7 goals to maintain an unblemished record.

Philadelphia Union: At 10-2-2, Philadelphia Union holds the No. 5 overall seed in the Development Academy’s eldest age group. Very few opponents have had an answer for Jeremy Rafanello, who has paced Philadelphia’s offense with 16 goals.

Players Development Academy: New Jersey powerhouse PDA possesses the No. 8 overall playoff seed with a 10-4-0 showing during the fall. Ibrahima DiopZach Riviere and Ryan Keenan have netted 16 of PDA’s 23 total goals.

Southeast Division

Chargers SC: In a congested Southeast Division, Chargers SC holds a slim lead heading into the winter at 7-4-2. Six players have scored multiple goals for the Florida side’s balanced offense.

Atlanta United FC: A total of 34 goals through 14 games have helped Atlanta United earn a 7-4-3 record and the No. 18 overall playoff seed. James Brighton‘s nine goals have played a major role in the high-powered offense.

Weston FC: No. 19 overall playoff seed Weston FC is in striking distance of the division leaders, compiling a 6-3-4 record during the fall. The third-highest scoring offense in the Southeast has totaled 33 goals in 13 games, highlighted by Alfred Perez (7 goals) and Gabriel Muzy (6 goals).
