Washington Spirit Girls’ DA Coaching Staff: The Washington Spirit Development Academy’s (VA) Technical Director is conducting a nationwide search for Head and Assistant Coaches for the club’s U14, U15, U17 and U19 teams. These coaching positions will work within the NWSL’s professional club and be involved in the first model of the girl’s US Soccer’s Development Academy League, which begins in the fall of 2017.

The Washington Spirit will offer a unique coach and player development experience.  For the coaches, there will be a connection with the professional team staff, consistent schedule and opportunities to be involved within other club programs (camps, training and Super Y League).  For players, each Academy player will receive a personalized development plan, full time sports science support, mentorship with a pro player, training opportunities with the pro or reserve team, video analysis sessions and off season Gap Training Program.  A first of its kind, the program will look to provide resources for players that are not comparable in other environments.

Officially – August 1st
Preparation Phase – April 15th – Once per week

March 1st – May 31st – Player offers
June 1st – July 15th – Gap Program (Summer training twice a week)


  • Coach training sessions and matches – Four Training sessions / One match
  • Scouting / Recruiting players
  • Assist with training of multiple age groups / teams
  • Give individual player feedback and advice during the session and after as needed
  • Create short and long term development plans for individual players
  • Will be required to be capable of implementing training curriculum in training session on their own with no supervision
  • Available for weekly staff meetings


  • Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise. Independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities
  • Desire to work with all ages and skill levels
  • Strong work ethic, team-oriented attitude and enthusiasm about contributing to the success of the department and club

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends


  • 21 years of age or older with access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Coaching qualifications USSF B License preferred – C and D Licenses will be considered
  • Continuing coaching education plan or pathway
  • Professional or Collegiate playing/coaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Video analysis skills preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Calendar
